The definition of art has always sparked controversy and I too had many discussions during Philosophy classes about the subject. The usual outcome was: “we agree to disagree” and “anyway philosophy never gives you a definitive answer”.
One of many questions was: If you go to a museum, do you need background knowledge about the artwork presented there in order to appreciate it?
